Ajax Brings In Experienced Goalkeeper Matheus lima Magalhães
In a move bolstering their defensive line, Ajax has secured the services of experienced goalkeeper Matheus Lima Magalhães from Braga. The 32-year-old joins the Amsterdam club initially on loan with an option to buy.
“With Matheus, we bring in a very experienced goalkeeper who, if necessary, he was ready for a new challenge and with the departure of Diant Ramaj, a place had been released at that position,” said Ajax technical director Alex Kroes, speaking with the club’s official channels.
The loan agreement is set to run through June 30, 2025. Kroes expressed satisfaction with the acquisition, stating, “We are happy that we were able to rent it with an option to buy.”
He further hinted at the possibility of a longer-term partnership,adding,”For example,he will not only fill in the vacant position behind Remko Pasveer for the short term,but we will not exclude a longer stay if we like it on both sides. We welcome him to the most stunning club in the Netherlands.”
Matheus will initially serve as the second goalkeeper for Ajax,providing experienced backup to the established Remko Pasveer.He will compete with Jay Gorter for the position of primary backup.

“He’s a very experienced goalkeeper, he’s played at a high level in portugal, and he’s proven to be a reliable and consistent performer. He’ll be a grate asset to our team, both on and off the field. He will not only fill in the vacant position behind Remko Pasveer for the short term, but we will not exclude a longer stay if we like it on both sides. We welcome him to the most stunning club in the Netherlands.”
Do you see him playing a more prominent role in the future or primarily as a backup to Remko Pasveer?
“We’ll see how things develop.Initially, he will be providing experienced backup to Remko Pasveer. He will compete with Jay Gorter for the position of primary backup. but if he performs well, who knows? We’re always looking to strengthen our squad and if he fits in well, we could certainly explore a longer-term partnership.”

” It’s really up to the coach. We’ll see how quickly he integrates into the team and how things go in training. But we’re excited to have him here and look forward to seeing him contribute to the club’s success.”
