The 2025 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship promises an exciting showdown as reigning champion Toprak Razgatlioglu adn his BMW Motorrad teammate,Michael van der Mark, look to etch their names further into WorldSBK history.A year after tasting their first World Championship title with BMW, the team heads into 2025 with ambitions firmly set on replicating last year’s success and securing a back-to-back victory.
Razgatlioglu, who already boasts two WorldSBK titles, now sports the coveted #1 plate, a testament to his dominance in the 2024 season. ”Normally, I feel a little bit of pressure when I use the #1,” confessed Razgatlioglu at the team’s season launch in Berlin. “Normally I don’t like the #1 but I use it for BMW because this is a result of teamwork; we got the world title and we’re World Champions. The #1 looks nice with the BMW – I hope we keep it at the end of the year, this is important for me! Last year, I wasn’t thinking about any targets, but I did an incredible job during the year. This year, I’m just thinking about Phillip Island and some races I didn’t win; I need to win them now, but especially at Phillip Island, I’ll try to win there.”
This dedication to victory is mirrored by van der Mark, who displayed remarkable consistency and podium potential towards the end of 2024. His victory at Magny-Cours and subsequent podium finish alongside Razgatlioglu at the final round solidified his position as a formidable force in the championship. “I think we want to start where we finished the season and that’s on the podium,” stated van der Mark during the team’s reveal. “We had a strong 2024 and a really good end to it. with the new M 1000 RR, we improved in a lot of areas. We shoudl be fighting for podiums from Round 1. We built a bit of momentum last year, also on my side, like I said, we finished the season strong. With everything new and improved, we should be there from the start. I have a lot of confidence. I think we’re stronger than last year.”
Team Principal Shaun Muir echoed the team’s aspirations, emphasizing their unwavering pursuit of both the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ Championships. BMW came agonizingly close to securing both titles in 2024, ultimately falling just 66 points short of Ducati in the teams’ standings. In the Manufacturers’ Championship, BMW almost secured their first title, falling short by only 38 points. This intense rivalry underscores the fierce competition within WorldSBK and sets the stage for a thrilling battle in 2025.
With a potent combination of experienced riders, a newly-developed bike, and a laser-focused determination, BMW Motorrad is poised to make a formidable impact in the 2025 WorldSBK Championship. The pressure is on, but the team is ready to rise to the challenge and capture the coveted titles that have eluded them.

BMW targets WorldSBK Domination in 2025
BMW Motorrad is brimming with confidence as it enters the 2025 WorldSBK season, eager to build on its recent successes and solidify its position as a championship contender. The German manufacturer is introducing a revamped M 1000 RR, powered by an engine boasting six additional horsepower, promising enhanced performance and durability.

“with the new M 1000 RR, we have a newly homologated road bike as the base for sports activities. This gives us the perfect platform to improve even over last year’s package,” explained Chris Gonschor, BMW Motorrad Technical director. “The new M 1000 RR has an optimised engine: on the street bike, it’s six horsepower more. This means there are changes in the engine which improve, and make room for improvement, to gain more power, durability, linearity. On the aerodynamic side, we have a new fairing, so it’ll be improved on this side. Electronics wise, the new bike has some new sensors so we gain some potential in this area and on the chassis side, we can always improve.”
The aerodynamic enhancements, coupled with the upgraded engine and electronics, are designed to deliver a more precise and competitive riding experience.
Focus on Two Riders
BMW’s 2025 WorldSBK strategy centers on a two-rider team, comprising reigning champion toprak Razgatlioglu and Loris Baz. This shift away from its previous two-team approach allows for concentrated resource allocation and a dedicated support system for each rider.
“I’m not afraid of the situation,” Gonschor stated confidently.“We have two strong race bikes on the grid, and we have the test team in the background so we can do the work we need to do. We can do more work with the test team, and harder,so we gain the information and the test items from the test team. The race team will receive the feedback and the parts verified and optimised and having just two bikes on the grid is also a chance because we can focus on two high-class riders and, one rider can win a race and the Championship. Both of them are capable of doing the job and I’m looking forward to seeing both riders on the podium; it doesn’t matter in which ranking.”
Enterprising Goals for 2025
With the updated M 1000 RR and a focused team, BMW is setting its sights on capturing all three major WorldSBK titles: Riders’, Teams’, and manufacturers’. The team’s confidence is evident, as reflected in Gonschor’s statement: “To complete the Manufacturers’ and Riders’ Championships would be a dream for 2025,”
The upcoming 2025 season promises to be a thrilling battle for supremacy in the WorldSBK arena, with BMW poised to be a force to be reckoned with.
