Wesleyan squash Sets Sights on NESCAC Tournament

The Wesleyan men’s squash team recently faced a formidable opponent in No. 16 ranked Amherst College. Despite falling 8-1, the Cardinals displayed a fighting spirit that Coach Michael Chen believes will serve them well as they head into the NESCAC Tournament.

abhinav Gupta ’25 emerged as a standout, securing Wesleyan’s lone victory in a thrilling five-game match against Amherst’s Abhimanyu Gupta. “Abhinav took games one, three, and five and ultimately pulled off the 3-2 match victory with 11-6, 10-12, 11-6, 9-11, 11-5 final scores,” recounted a tournament observer. This hard-fought win showcased gupta’s resilience and determination, qualities that Coach Chen sees as crucial for success in the upcoming tournament.

“While the score doesn’t reflect it,I saw a lot of heart from our guys,” Coach Chen said.”They battled hard against a strong opponent. Abhinav Gupta’s five-game victory over Abhimanyu Gupta was notably remarkable. He showed amazing resilience and focus, coming back after dropping a couple of games.”

The NESCAC Tournament, hosted by Trinity College in Hartford, CT on February 8th, promises to be a fiercely competitive event. Coach Chen remains optimistic about his team’s chances.

“Our goal is to compete at our best and leave everything on the court,” he stated. “We’ve been training hard and are confident in our abilities. We’re looking forward to the challenge and excited to showcase our skills against the best teams in the conference.”
