Shauna Rae, a 25-year-old woman standing at 3ft10, faces unique challenges in dating due to a condition that has left her with the body of an eight-year-old. This heartbreaking situation prompted her parents to educate her about the dangers of predators and navigate the complexities of relationships while ensuring her safety.
Rae’s condition is a result of cancer treatment she underwent during her childhood. While she has grown intellectually, her physical development has been arrested. This disparity creates a complex social landscape for her, requiring careful consideration and awareness.
As Rae stated, her parents understandably took on the tough task of teaching her about the risks associated with dating and navigating relationships. It’s a testament to their love and dedication that they prioritized her safety and well-being in a situation that presents many unique challenges.
Her story sheds light on the importance of understanding and empathy for individuals facing rare and challenging medical conditions. It highlights the need for open conversations about dating and safety, especially for those who may be more vulnerable due to their circumstances.Navigating the world of dating can be complex, but for Shauna Rae,a 22-year-old with a rare condition that causes her to look much younger, the challenges are amplified. On The Unplanned Podcast, Shauna candidly discussed the unique hurdles she faces when it comes to love and relationships.
“It’s very easy to be prey in this world as a tiny little girl,” she shared, reflecting on how her parents instilled in her a healthy sense of caution from a young age. “My parents taught me that any guy – or person, really – that’s interested in you, you have to read into them because ther’s a chance that it’s about your size.” This constant awareness of potential danger created a deep-seated fear of dating and even flirting. When Shauna was once asked out in a cafeteria, her immediate thought was, “Are you a predator?” She couldn’t bring herself to say yes.
Seeking guidance, Shauna turned to her parents for advice. They sat her down and offered some valuable wisdom: “Look, when it comes to romantic things, people may view you differently,” they said. “But what you wont to look for is building a friendship, building a base. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about looks.” They emphasized the importance of finding someone who could appreciate her beyond her appearance.
“You’re going to get old. You’re going to get ugly. You’re going to get grouchy,” they realistically stated. Shauna’s parents encouraged her to focus on building a strong foundation and bond, advising: “You want to find someone with whom you can build a strong foundation and a bond. You’ll probably end up with someone who was your friend for a really, really long time—someone who eventually realizes they like you. And that’s going to be your situation.”
shauna, the star of her own show, “I Am Shauna Rae,” was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer as a baby and underwent intensive chemotherapy. This resulted in a hormonal imbalance that causes her to appear substantially younger than her actual age.
This unique situation presents Shauna with a compelling dilemma: finding a partner who is genuinely attracted to her personality and connection, rather than her appearance. Her parents’ advice, grounded in realism and self-awareness, offers valuable insight for anyone navigating the complexities of finding love and companionship.
