Goa Opposition Voices disappointment Over Union Budget 2025

GoaS opposition parties are expressing disappointment over Budget 2025,criticizing it for failing to adequately address the pressing needs of the state. Yuri Alemao, the opposition leader, voiced his concerns, stating,“The main engine seems to have forgotten the engine in Goa. While alliance partners like Bihar have received significant budget announcements, goa has been seemingly overlooked.”

Alemao further expressed confusion surrounding the income tax slab increase to Rs 12 lakh, stating, “The budget harps on just one thing: the income tax slab increased to Rs 12 lakh and has left people confused.”

Amit Palekar, the AAP state president, echoed these sentiments, lamenting the budget’s lack of focus on the middle class. “the burden keeps rising, while the government looks the other way. Disappointing,” Palekar declared. He pointed out the absence of concrete measures to tackle inflation and provide support for crucial sectors like education, healthcare, and employment generation.

South Goa Congress MP Viriato Fernandes echoed the sentiment, stating, “We all know that the economy of the country is not doing well, and it is spiralling out of control.” he expressed concern over the minimal provisions for the middle class and highlighted the neglect of education.

These criticisms highlight the growing concerns among Goa’s opposition parties regarding the government’s priorities and the potential impact of Budget 2025 on the state’s economy and its citizens.

Goa Reels From Budget 2025: Opposition Leader calls Out Oversights

Criticism is mounting over the 2025 Union Budget, with Goa’s Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao expressing deep disappointment over its perceived neglect of the state’s pressing needs.

Speaking to Archyde News, Alemao voiced his concern that the budget seemed to prioritize other states, leaving Goa behind. “It feels like the engine in Delhi has fully forgotten about the engine in Goa,” he lamented.

While acknowledging the apparent benefits for some alliance partners,Alemao highlighted goa’s relative lack of attention. “Our alliance partners like bihar seem to have benefitted considerably, while goa appears to have been overlooked,” he stated.

Alemao pointed to vital sectors like education and healthcare where he felt the budget fell short. He expressed particular concern for the education sector, where many teachers remain awaiting regularization. The Budget, he felt, had failed to address this urgent issue.

With a heavy heart, Alemao concluded his assessment with a stark statement: “This government has let down the people of the country.”

While the recently introduced budget saw a notable increase in the income tax slab to Rs 12 lakh, concerns have been raised that it fails to adequately address the immediate needs of the people. The focus on tax structure adjustments hasn’t resonated with those seeking tangible solutions for the pressing issues facing Goa.

A Budget Shortchanged: Lack of Focus on Crucial Needs

A prominent voice in the opposition has expressed that the budget falls short in addressing the economic anxieties felt by citizens.”It’s clear that the current economic climate is causing widespread anxiety,” the voice stated. “The budget, with its lack of focus on crucial sectors, does little to alleviate these concerns. The middle class is struggling, and this budget offers minimal relief.”

The absence of concrete measures to combat inflation, support essential services like healthcare and education, and generate new employment opportunities has fueled this sentiment. The budget has been criticized for neglecting these critical areas, leaving many, including educators anxiously awaiting regularization, feeling let down.

A Message of resilience: Hope for a Better future

Despite the perceived shortcomings, a message of perseverance and hope has emerged. “I urge people not to lose hope,” the voice reassured. “While this budget may not address our immediate needs, we will continue to fight for a better future for Goa. We will keep demanding a fairer share of resources and policies that truly benefit the people of this state.”

Which sectors in Goa, according to Yuri Alemao, need urgent attention in the Union budget 2025?

Goa Reels From Budget 2025: Opposition Leader Speaks Out

An Interview with Yuri Alemao

Goa’s Opposition leader Yuri Alemao speaks to Archyde News about his disappointment with the Union Budget 2025,highlighting the perceived neglect of the state’s needs.

Archyde News: mr. Alemao, what are your initial thoughts on the 2025 Union Budget?

Yuri Alemao: To be frank, I’m deeply disappointed. It feels like the engine in Delhi has entirely forgotten about the engine in Goa. While our alliance partners seem to have received significant budgetary benefits, Goa has been seemingly overlooked.

Archyde News: Can you elaborate on this feeling of neglect? Which sectors are most concerning for you?

Yuri Alemao: The Budget mentions an increase in the income tax slab to Rs 12 lakh, but aside from that, there isn’t much to address the needs of Goans. Education and healthcare are key sectors that need urgent attention. Many teachers in Goa are still awaiting regularization, and this Budget has failed to address their concerns.

Archyde News: The 2025 budget has been criticized for it’s lack of focus on the middle class. How do you see this impacting Goan households?

Yuri Alemao: The lack of concrete measures to combat rising inflation is a major concern. The middle class in Goa, like across the country, is struggling, and this budget offers minimal relief. Its a bit baffling to focus on just one aspect, like the income tax slab, while overlooking the key issues that directly impact people’s daily lives.

Archyde News: do you believe this Budget reflects the government’s priorities for Goa?

Yuri Alemao: With a heavy heart, I have to say this government has let down the people of the country, and that includes the people of Goa. This budget has failed to address our state’s pressing needs and has left us feeling marginalized.

Archyde News: Looking ahead, what message do you have for the people of Goa?

yuri Alemao: I urge people not to lose hope. We will continue to fight for a better future for Goa. We will keep demanding a fairer share of resources and policies that truly benefit the people of this state.
