blackpool bid farewell to Irish singing sensation Linda Nolan, whose sparkling legacy continued to shine even in the face of adversity. The streets were lined with mourners as NolanS pink sparkly coffin made its way to St. Paul’s Church, a poignant tribute accompanied by the soaring strains of Josh Groban’s “To Where You Are”.
Sister Coleen Nolan, well-known from the daytime television panel show “Loose Women”, could be seen wiping tears from her eyes as the service concluded. Linda, alongside her sisters Denise, Maureen, Anne, and the late Bernie, formed the iconic girl group, The Nolans, who topped the charts in the late 70s and early 80s with hits like “Gotta Pull Myself Together” and “I’m In The Mood For Dancing.”
Denise Nolan-Anderson, speaking with heartfelt emotion during the eulogy, painted a vivid picture of Linda’s vibrant personality. “she really loved going to premieres and opening nights, having her lovely hair and make-up done, and always was the life and soul of any big occasion,” she shared. She added, with a knowing smile,”She would have loved all the fuss today.”
Losing her hair due to cancer treatment, the passing of her beloved husband Brian, and the tragic loss of her sister Bernie were amongst the heaviest struggles Linda faced. yet, Denise called her “an remarkable woman” who “chose to help raise millions for cancer research” instead of being consumed by despair.
“She showed courage in the face of adversity,” Denise concluded, her voice thick with emotion. “It’s time to rest now Linda. The battle is over, you are free.”
Linda’s enduring charisma drew a diverse crowd of mourners, including a constellation of familiar faces. Charismatic “EastEnders” star Shane Richie, a former son-in-law of Coleen Nolan, comedy legends Tommy Cannon and Paul Elliott (Paul Chuckle), and singer Lisa Maffia were amongst those who gathered to pay their respects.
Paul Elliott offered a heartfelt tribute, stating, “She was just a fun, bubbly person. The world’s a darker place without her,” and recalling their shared history on stage in pantomimes and charity events.
Comedian Les Dawson’s daughter, Charlotte Dawson, embraced Linda’s vibrant spirit, arriving at the service in full glamor. “She touched so manny hearts and she’s just fabulous,” she said, recalling their shared history of mischief and laughter. “I’m in full glam for you Linda, as she’d love me in full glam.”
Outside the church, a framed photograph of Linda stood as a silent sentinel, accompanied by a book of condolences, where mourners penned their heartfelt farewells to a beloved singer and a true icon.
The Dublin-born singer, a warrior in the face of illness, passed away last month at the age of 65, surrounded by her family. Her impact on the music scene and her unwavering spirit will forever be remembered

Remembering Linda Nolan: A Conversation with lifelong freind Clare Doherty
Yesterday, Blackpool paid its respects to beloved singer Linda Nolan, whose life and legacy were celebrated at a moving funeral service.
Linda’s close friend, Clare Doherty, joins us today to share her memories of the iconic singer, actress, and tireless advocate for cancer research.
Clare, thank you for taking the time to speak with us today. Can you tell us about the impact Linda had on the lives of those around her?
It was truly a privilege to know Linda. She was a force of nature, genuinely radiant and infectiously cheerful. Laughter came so easily to her, and she had a knack for making everyone feel special. Even in the darkest of times – and she faced her own share – Linda never lost her sparkle or her determination. She was an inspiration to us all, a beacon of hope and resilience.
Linda’s public persona was always vibrant. What was she like behind the stage lights?
linda was even more vibrant in private. She loved the finer things in life – a glamorous outfit, a night at the theater, good food, good company. She had a passion for life, a deep gratitude for the simple joys. But more than anything, Linda cherished her family and friends.she was fiercely loyal, always put others before herself, and would go to any lengths for those she loved.
Losing a loved one to illness is never easy. Did Linda ever speak about finding strength in those tough times?
She spoke freely about the pain she felt, but also about the strength she found in music, her family, and in her determination to help others facing similar challenges. Linda felt called to raise awareness and funds for cancer research, and she did so with incredible passion. She believed in turning pain into purpose, and she refused to let her own struggles define her. I believe that’s truly the legacy she wants to leave behind.
The world is a dimmer place without Linda’s shining light. But her music will continue to bring joy, her story will continue to inspire, and her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
What would you like linda to be remembered for?
above all, I want people to remember Linda’s spirit – her indomitable spirit, her kindness, her generosity, and her unwavering belief in the power of hope. Even in the face of adversity, she chose to shine her light and make the world a better place. Let’s honor her memory by living lives filled with laughter, love, and compassion, just like Linda did.
