Gilmanton library Receives Boost for Children’s Literacy

Exciting news for young readers in Gilmanton!⁢ The Gilmanton Year-Round Library has‍ been chosen as a recipient of the prestigious Rural Library Grant from ⁣the Children’s Literacy⁣ Foundation for the 2024-2025 academic year. The grant, awarded to twelve qualifying libraries in Vermont and New Hampshire, aims to ‍ignite a passion for literacy, refresh collections, boost circulation, and strengthen community ties.‌

“The Gilmanton Year-Round Library Association is thrilled to be a CLiF Rural Library Grant recipient,” ‍said Chris Schlegel, President of the Board of Directors. “This incredible possibility will ​benefit both our public library and the Gilmanton School Library.The ​Children’s Literacy Foundation’s goals⁢ perfectly align with our‌ mission to promote literacy in our community,” Schlegel added. “Updating our children’s book collection and hosting engaging ‌programs for kids and families is crucial, and this grant makes that possible.”

Come spring 2025, the grant will inject a significant amount into the community: $2,000 worth⁢ of new children’s books will grace the shelves of the public library, while $500 will ⁢enrich the collection of Gilmanton Elementary School. Moreover, the grant⁢ will sponsor two captivating storytelling events, allowing each child attending Gilmanton Elementary School to select and keep two brand-new ⁤books.

Cassie willner, program Manager for the Children’s Literacy Foundation, expressed the organization’s enthusiasm: “CLiF’s Rural Library Grant program is a wonderful way to support libraries. The Gilmanton Year-Round Library has received a ‍meaningful boost to it’s children’s ​literacy ‌program thanks to​ a prestigious Rural Library Grant ⁣from ‌the Children’s Literacy Foundation (clif).⁤ We spoke with Chris Schlegel, President of the Gilmanton⁣ Year-Round Library Association, and Cassie‍ Willner, Program Manager for ⁢CLiF, to learn more about this exciting initiative.

Chris, congratulations on receiving this grant! Can⁤ you tell our ‍readers a ​bit about what‍ this means ‍for the gilmanton community?

“We are ‍absolutely thrilled‌ to be ⁤chosen as​ a clif Rural Library Grant‍ recipient. This is a game-changer for our‍ community. ⁢The grant funding will allow us to refresh and⁤ expand our‌ children’s book collections at both the ⁢public library and ‍Gilmanton Elementary School. That’s a crucial ​step ⁤in ‌ensuring all our young readers have access to engaging and diverse stories. Moreover,we’ll be hosting two fantastic storytelling events where every child at Gilmanton elementary will get to ‌choose and keep two brand-new books! This is a marvelous chance‌ to ignite a love of reading ⁢in⁢ our children.”

Cassie, CLiF has been a champion of children’s literacy ​for years.⁤ What⁢ motivated the foundation to create ‍this Rural Library Grant program?

“we at CLiF believe that every child deserves access to the joy⁤ of ⁢reading. Libraries ⁤are invaluable community ⁤assets,especially in rural areas where resources ⁢can be limited. This grant program is designed to directly ‍support these libraries in making ​a tangible difference in the ⁤lives of young readers.By providing funding for new books, hosting⁤ engaging ⁤events, and raising awareness about the importance of literacy, we hope ‌to empower children to discover the power of stories and build​ a lifelong love of learning.”

Chris, what kinds of⁢ new books ⁤are you most excited ‍to add to⁢ your collection with this funding?

“We’re looking to build a collection that truly reflects the ⁤diverse communities we serve. This means incorporating books⁣ featuring ‌characters from ‌different backgrounds, cultures,‌ and experiences. ​We also want ‌to offer a wide range of genres to‌ spark different interests ⁤– from heartwarming fantasy to exciting adventures,⁣ thought-provoking ​non-fiction, and everything in between! It’s all about finding those ‌gems that will capture a ‍child’s imagination and inspire⁣ them⁢ to explore new worlds.”
