AAP Leader Sanjay singh speaks Out After tragic Maha Kumbh Stampede
Distressing scenes unfolded at the Maha Kumbh Mela this week, leaving a trail of tragedy and prompting calls for systemic change. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been especially vocal, pointing fingers at administrative shortcomings and the pervasive influence of VIP culture. Sanjay Singh, AAP leader, spoke exclusively to Archyde about the harrowing events and the urgent need for reform.
A Heartbreaking Spectacle
“I saw a woman desperately trying to give oxygen from her mouth to her family member to save him. This is heartbreaking,” Singh shared, describing the grim spectacle that unfolded. He revealed that Mahamandaleshwar Premanand Puri Ji, a prominent religious leader, had urged authorities to hand over event management to the army, a plea that was ultimately rejected.
VIP culture: The Root Cause?
Singh declared, “we never wanted to comment on this, but the reality is clear – VIP culture is the main problem. Roads are being closed for VIP movement, causing chaos for the devotees.” He added that the administration’s sluggish response, arriving at the scene only at 1 a.m., compounded the crisis. Singh claimed they then forcefully encouraged people to partake in the sacred dip (snan), triggering a wave of panic that culminated in the terrifying stampede. “This created a stampede-like situation. My heart goes out to those affected. I appeal to the Chief Minister to promptly stop all VIP movements at the Maha Kumbh,” he urged.
Calls for Accountability and Change
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi CM Atishi joined Singh in expressing their condolences, adding their voices to the chorus of grief and condemnation. Singh emphasized the need for a thorough examination into the events leading up to the tragedy, demanding accountability from those responsible. He stressed the urgency of addressing systemic issues, particularly VIP culture, to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
