[Archyde News: Exclusive Interview]
Title: “Justice and Deterrence: A Dialog with colonel Mykhailo Shevchenko on the Recent Knife Attack against SBI Investigator”
Archyde: Colonel Shevchenko, thank you for joining us today. You’re a decorated military officer and have been closely following the developments in the ongoing war. Can you share your thoughts on the recent morale and desertion issues within the Ukrainian military?
Colonel Shevchenko: Thank you for having me. The situation with morale and desertion is indeed a serious challenge we face today. The scale of the conflict and the relentless Russian aggression have taken a critically important toll on our troops. Many units have been decimated, and fatigue is setting in. However,it’s crucial to understand that desertion is not a solution and only further jeopardizes our efforts to defend our country.
Archyde: The recent attack on an SBI investigator by a suspected deserter has brought these issues to the fore. Can you react to this alarming incident?
Colonel Shevchenko: This incident is deeply troubling and underscores the severity of the situation. Attacking an investigator who was simply doing their job to uphold the law is a fainthearted and inexcusable act. Our investigators and law enforcement are on the frontlines, not just against external aggression, but also against criminal elements within our society. They deserve our respect and support, not violence.
Archyde: How do you think this incident reflects on the broader issue of desertion and low morale?
Colonel Shevchenko: This incident is a symptom of deeper issues. Low morale and fatigue from the ongoing conflict can lead to desperation and poor decision-making. However, it’s significant to remember that desertion is a crime and will be treated as such.We are at war, and every Ukrainian is needed to defend our homeland. Those who choose to abandon their duties not only put themselves at risk but also jeopardize the safety of their fellow citizens.
archyde: What message would you like to send to those considering desertion?
Colonel Shevchenko: I want to remind them of the oath they took – to serve their country and protect its people. Desertion is a betrayal of that oath and of their fellow soldiers who continue to fight and make sacrifices. If they’re facing difficulties, they should seek help, not run. There are support systems in place to assist them and ease their burden.Remember, every Ukrainian is important, and every Ukrainian has a role to play in this war.
Archyde: Colonel, thank you for your time and insight. Your message is clear and timely. We appreciate your service and sacrifice.
Colonel Shevchenko: Thank you. Please remember, we are all in this together. Together, we will defend Ukraine and emerge victorious.
