Dame Judi Dench: Thank you, that’s very kind of you. Well, I’ve been blessed to have had a progressive condition, which has allowed me time to adapt and find ways to work around my vision loss. It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve always been persistent to keep acting, to keep telling stories.

Archyde: You’ve spoken before about how your vision loss has changed your approach to acting and learning lines. Can you tell us more about that?

Dame Judi Dench: Absolutely.Reading scripts has become much more challenging, so I’ve started relying on audiobooks and text-to-speech software. For learning lines, I’ve had to trust my instincts and my ear more. I listen to the rhythm of the words, the pace, and I respond to my fellow actors. It’s been an engaging journey, like rediscovering my craft.

We should never shy away from discussing our barriers and how we overcome them.
