In a move too expand the reach of Indonesia’s vital Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, the government is preparing to allocate an additional IDR 100 trillion to the initiative.This allocation comes on the heels of President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to prioritize the program’s expansion, ensuring that all children have access to nutritious meals.
Minister of Finance Sri mulyani Indrawati confirmed the government’s commitment to identifying a suitable budget within the APBN (State Budget) framework. “Yes, in the overall posture of the APBN, all the priorities that the president has set and will be achieved will be taken into consideration,” she stated at the Presidential palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/1/2025).”And which parts are for accommodating additional needs that we are identifying and so that they can be in line with his priorities and reduce inefficiencies,” she added.
The additional funding will come from a series of efficiencies identified within the 2025 APBN. While specific details remain undisclosed,President Prabowo Subianto assured that the necessary resources are available and ready to be allocated for the program’s expansion.
dadan Hindayana, Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), expressed his confidence in the government’s commitment. “The President has committed that the additional budget for the MBG program will be funded by the APBN,” he revealed. Hindayana explained that the agency received confirmation during the recent Plenary Cabinet Session,where the President outlined the planned efficiencies within the APBN that will enable the program’s growth.
Hindayana emphasized, “We only receive information and when the Nutrition Agency needs a budget, you have prepared it, don’t worry, you just work. The budget has already been prepared,” he said, highlighting the government’s dedication to ensuring the smooth implementation of the program’s expansion.
