Giancarlo EspositoS Serpent Surprise: Sidewinder Takes on a New Form
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to get a whole lot more slithery. Giancarlo Esposito, known for his captivating roles in shows like Breaking Bad, The Boys, and The Mandalorian, recently joined the MCU, stepping into the shoes of the villainous Seth Voelker, aka Sidewinder. While set photos offered glimpses of his intriguing character, his official role was kept under wraps untill the release of the first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World.
this iteration of Sidewinder, a member of the serpent Society in Marvel Comics, promises to be a departure from the source material. Esposito himself hinted at this, stating: “Part of the incorporation of Sidewinder’s colors I brought into the costume that I’m wearing,” he told ABC. “I’m hoping that it gives them inspiration in movies to come that will allow me to take on more of that serpent persona.” This suggests a deeper exploration of the character’s reptilian ties, adding a layer of visceral unpredictability to his villainy.
Esposito is also speedy to emphasize the physicality of this role: “You’ve never seen me play a character like this,” he continued. ”This guy knows how to use a rifle, a pistol, knives, (he’s) very, very physical, active with his physicality, punches, kicks, all that.” Fans eagerly anticipate witnessing Esposito’s transformative performance as he brings this multi-dimensional antagonist to life.

”It made more sense for it to be more of a grounded espionage action movie as opposed to aliens and airplanes coming through portals and sh*t,” Mackie explained in a recent interview, highlighting the film’s focus on a more realistic and gritty action style.”Even though I’ve been in so many of them and have seen it all now, the possibility for Sam to really establish himself as a true action star and Avenger comes with this movie,” he added, emphasizing the significant role this film plays in defining Sam Wilson’s legacy as Captain America.

Archyde, 2025-01-22
In an exclusive interview with Archyde, giancarlo Esposito, the renowned actor known for his captivating performances in shows like Breaking Bad, the Boys, and The Mandalorian, discusses his latest role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the villainous Seth Voelker, aka Sidewinder, in Captain America: Brave New World.
Archyde (A): Welcome, Giancarlo. We’re thrilled to have you hear to discuss your new role in the MCU.
Giancarlo Esposito (GE): Thank you. I’m excited to be here and talk about Sidewinder.
A: Let’s dive right in. Your character, Sidewinder, is a departure from the comic version. can you tell us more about that?
GE: Absolutely. I’ve taken some creative liberties with the character, incorporating aspects of the Serpent Society from the comics, but also adding my own touch. You’ll see that in the costume, for instance. I wanted to bring in some of Sidewinder’s colors, hinting at his reptilian ties, to give a sense of his visceral unpredictability.
A: That’s certainly intriguing. It seems like you’re hinting at a deeper exploration of the character’s reptilian nature.
GE: Exactly. I’m hoping that this will inspire the filmmakers to delve more into that aspect in future projects. I’d love to take on more of the serpent persona, making sidewinder truly unique in the MCU.
A: Speaking of unique, you’ve mentioned that this role is unlike any you’ve played before. Can you elaborate on that?
GE: Oh, absolutely. This guy, Seth Voelker, is very physical. He’s a warrior, a fighter. He knows how to use a variety of weapons – rifles, pistols, knives. He’s active, always moving. It’s a different kind of intensity then I’ve brought to characters in the past. It’s been a lot of fun to explore this side of my acting range.
A: That physicality must have required some intense training. How was that process?
GE: It was challenging, but incredibly rewarding.I’ve been working with some fantastic stunt coordinators and trainers. They’ve really helped me push my limits and bring this character to life in a way that feels authentic and exciting.
A: We can’t wait to see it on screen. now, you’ve had an astounding career, working with some amazing talent. What drew you to the MCU and the role of Sidewinder?
GE: The MCU is a powerhouse in the film industry, and I’ve always been drawn to complex, captivating characters. Sidewinder offered me that. He’s a villain, yes, but he’s also a man with a past, with motivations. I think there’s a lot to explore there, and I’m excited to be a part of it.
A: we’re excited to see it all unfold. Thank you so much for joining us today, Giancarlo.
GE: My pleasure.Thank you for having me.
