While most graphics cards tend to blend into the background, the Nvidia RTX 5090 Founders Edition is anything but subtle. This hefty card commands attention with its imposing, dark gray, metallic design. ItS a statement piece, radiating raw power and promising exceptional performance for any PC build.
Although a review unit was provided by Nvidia, I’m currently bound by a non-disclosure agreement, preventing me from revealing its inner workings or benchmark performance. For now, my impressions are based solely on a hands-on examination of the physical card.
The weight of the card is instantly apparent. Even after sitting in a transit truck for days, the metal case felt uncomfortably heavy to the touch. It exudes a solid, dense feel with no wasted space, a combination that’s both remarkable and slightly intimidating. This is a card that demands respect and makes me slightly concerned about its support stability.
Compared to other premium GPUs like the PNY RTX 4080 Super, Asus RTX 4080 super, and MSI RTX 4070 Ti Super, all of which sport three fans, the RTX 5090 appears surprisingly compact. Despite occupying fewer slots, it still requires additional support to prevent bending or straining under its own weight.
Nvidia assures me that their innovative cooling system is designed to keep this beast under control, even under extreme stress. The intake is positioned at the bottom, while the exhaust vents are situated at the top, making it ideal for setups with bottom-to-top airflow.
The combination of weight and dark metallic finish adds to the card’s formidable presence. It stands in stark contrast to the silver accents often seen on the RTX 4090. A glimpse through the card’s panel reveals intricate heat pipes, hinting at the complex cooling system within. The iconic geforce RTX logo adds a touch of flair, illuminating with a soft glow when powered on.
The packaging for the Founders Edition is unique, resembling a corrugated cardboard box that mimics the footprint of the RTX 5090 itself. Inside, the card is protected without the need for an anti-static bag or sleeve. The snug packaging ensures no movement during transit. Besides the card, the only included accessory is a short 4x PCIe 5.0 adapter. Nvidia states that this adapter is essential for optimal performance.
