It’s in our best interest as an association to have our players, especially experienced ones like derek, ready to step in if needed.

ken Holland: Absolutely. It’s a delicate balance. But we have to make decisions with the long-term success of the team in mind. We hope that this move helps Derek recapture some of the form that made him an integral part of our team in the past. The door isn’t closed on him returning to the Oilers roster.

Coach Knoblauch anticipates having him in the lineup within a week.We’re just taking it step by step, easing him back in, but so far, so good.
