Past events have demonstrated the profound impact of Culture Night on local communities. Towns like Stradbally and Rathdowney have seen their confidence and organizational skills soar, thanks to these celebrations. Workshops in art, music, dance, and drama are held in advance, engaging schools and community members in the planning process.
One standout example was the 2023 Night Creatures Parade in Stradbally, a dazzling event featuring students from Cosby NS and St Colemans NS, drummers from Music Generation Laois, and dancers from the buggie School of Dance. The evening was filled with parades, illuminations, and a sense of community pride.
In 2024, Rathdowney hosted ”Rathdowney Revels,” a magical evening of dance, music, and illuminations. Radiant creatures filled the Square, guided by a celestial display of sun, moon, and stars. Participants included students from Scoil Bhríde NS and Saint Fergal’s College, residents of Erkina House, and members of the broader Rathdowney community.
These events, produced by Laois County Council Arts Service in partnership with Music Generation Laois, have become a cornerstone of community engagement and creativity. If you’re inspired to bring a similar experience to your town, now’s your chance.
