Ukraine’s Southern Front Counterattack: Svitan Predicts Strategic Advantage in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia

Ukrainian military analyst Roman Svitan has suggested that the Armed Forces of Ukraine may soon launch a counteroffensive, perhaps targeting key regions such as Kherson or Zaporizhzhia.This strategic maneuver could significantly alter the course of the ongoing conflict, offering Ukraine a chance to regain control in contested areas.

Svitan, a reserve colonel in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, outlined a scenario where Ukrainian troops could advance from the right to the left bank, focusing on critical locations like Oleshki, Novaya Kakhovka, Vasilyevka, and Gulyaypolya. The ultimate objective would be to push toward Polog, a move that Svitan believes could exploit tactical weaknesses in Russian defenses.

“This direction for our counterattack is very beneficial, but for the Russians, it is indeed indeed extremely difficult even for defence, let alone for attack. I believe this is one of the options for stretching the Russians along the front. Currently, we are focusing on the Kursk direction, effectively stretching their northern defenses. However, operations in the southern direction are also a possibility in the near future,” svitan explained during an interview with the YouTube channel “Now.”

Svitan emphasized that the counteroffensive could span multiple fronts, from the Kinburn Spit to Gulyai-Polye and Pologi. Though, he highlighted the importance of air support in ensuring the success of these operations. Without sufficient aerial assistance, advancing in these regions would be fraught with challenges.

“But aviation comes to us,” Svitan added optimistically. “In the coming week, we expect confirmation of the arrival of the Mirages, which will be configured to operate effectively in bomber mode on the ground.”
