“It has been a longstanding dream of mine too organize and bring a world-class javelin competition to India,” said Neeraj Chopra, India’s Olympic gold medalist. “I am sure that my fellow athletes and the fans in India will both create an experience that will be spoken about for a long time. I am excited to see how big we can make this.”

This year, India is set to host its second Continental Tour meet, a prestigious series of track and field events supported by World Athletics. The First Indian Open World Athletics Bronze Level continental Tour is scheduled to take place in Bhubaneswar on August 10, marking a meaningful milestone for the country’s sporting calendar.

The Continental Tour,an annual lineup of international competitions,sits just below the Diamond League in terms of prestige. It offers athletes a platform to showcase their skills while bringing world-class athletics to fans across the globe. “World Athletics is delighted to support this new event that will allow fans in India to see their heroes on home soil and that will also showcase to the world India’s ability to stage gold standard events,” said Lord Sebastian Coe, president of World Athletics.

In addition to the Continental Tour, India is gearing up to host its first-ever para Athletics World Championships in New Delhi this September-October.
