The Friends of the Mt. Prospect Public Library are ringing in the new year with a bang,hosting their much-anticipated quarterly book sale on January 18-19.This event promises to be a treasure trove for book lovers, offering an extensive collection of books, DVDs, CDs, vintage vinyl records, games, puzzles, and more—all at unbeatable prices.
Located at 10 S. Emerson St.,the Mt. Prospect Public Library will open its doors from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Best of all, both admission and parking are completely free, making it an accessible event for everyone in the community.
“Thanks to the amazing generosity of our community over the past few months, we’ve received an abundance of donations, making this year’s selection truly extraordinary,” said Pat Klawitter, president of the friends of the Mt. Prospect Public Library. “our ‘Better Book Room’ upstairs in Meeting Room A is packed with hundreds of hardcover titles, while the friends’ Room downstairs offers discounted books on a wide range of topics—cooking, gardening, military history, travel, sports, novels, classics, sewing, biographies, business, and religion. There’s somthing for everyone, whether you’re looking for old favorites or new discoveries.”
Klawitter also highlighted the sale’s extensive collection of paperback books, priced at just a quarter each. “These include works by top authors, murder mysteries, biographies, sci-fi, and more, all available in the smaller meeting rooms upstairs. Plus, there are surprises and ‘cool stuff’ scattered throughout the sale. You might stumble upon something unexpected, like a book revealing the secrets of the spy world.”
One of the sale’s standout features is the “Goldmine” section, which includes ‘Eric’s Picks’—a curated selection of unique and offbeat items chosen by Eric Bertolozzi, a longtime volunteer and vice president of the Friends board. “I look for captivating, unusual, and off-the-beaten-path material,” Bertolozzi explained. “For example, we had a book called ‘Projects You Can Make with Cat Hair,’ and it sold almost promptly.”
Klawitter noted that Bertolozzi’s picks are always in high demand.“They tend to go fast,so if you see something you like,don’t hesitate!”
Families will appreciate the large children’s and teen sections,while bargain hunters can explore better books priced between $2 and $10,with rare or autographed editions priced slightly higher. Credit cards are accepted, and amiable, learned volunteers are on hand to assist shoppers in finding exactly what they’re looking for—or something entirely new.
