I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little wistful watching the tournament this year, but it’s also exciting to see the next generation of Canadian talent taking over. Absolutely! You’ll be cheering them on from afar, there’s no doubt whatsoever. Speaking of your last World Juniors, leaving a mark like you did with nine goals and fourteen assists, becoming Canada’s most productive World Junior player ever, is quite a legacy. What advice would you give this year’s Canadian team looking to go all the way? I’d tell them to soak it all in. Enjoy every moment, play your game, and trust your teammates. It goes by so fast. and, of course, always believe in yourselves. Hockey is a team sport, and when you all buy into the shared goal, great things can happen. That’s a great message for any young athlete. Your signature “Michigan” goal against Slovakia was a particular highlight from your tournament run. what do you think about fans clamoring for a repeat performance at the NHL level? (chuckles) It’s always fun to pull off a highlight-reel play, but I’m focused on helping the Blackhawks win games. If the prospect arises for another Michigan, maybe I’ll give it a try, but right now, scoring simple goals and making smart plays are my priorities.

Smith’s impressive performance carried over from his NCAA dominance, where he led the league in scoring. He even represented the USA in both the world Juniors and the senior World Championships held in the Czech Republic. Missing from the World Championship not all of the NHL’s top draft picks will be participating in the upcoming World Championships. Artom Levshunov, a top pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, and Ivan Demidov, the fifth pick in the 2024 draft, will be absent as Belarus will not be competing in the tournament. 2023 draft pick Beckett Sennecke also won’t be at the World Championships after failing to secure a roster spot with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Top Prospects Missed Out on World Juniors selection

The recent announcement of the⁤ roster for the 2025 World Junior Hockey championship has​ left some notable names off the list.‌ Several​ highly-touted prospects, including three players from‍ the Leafs association, were surprisingly passed over. Tija Iginla, Carter‌ Yakemchuk, and Zayne parekh, all ⁤selected within the top 10 of the draft, will‌ not be representing their country in this ​prestigious tournament. Adding to⁣ the list of omissions is Czech‍ defender Dominik Badinka,who was ​drafted‌ in the second round. Despite regularly competing in Sweden’s top men’s‌ league,‌Badinka also ⁢declined invitations to join the national team on multiple occasions. Consequently of‍ his repeated declines, the coach‍ of the ​Czech national team decided not to ⁤include Badinka on the roster for ⁢the World Juniors.

It‌ definitely is.Representing Canada at the‌ World Juniors was an amazing experience.Winning the⁣ gold medal ​in front ⁣of my home crowd last year​ was ⁢a⁤ dream come true. I’d ‌be⁤ lying if ‌I said‍ I wasn’t a⁤ little wistful ⁤watching the ​tournament this year, but‌ it’s ​also ⁢exciting to see the next generation of Canadian talent⁢ taking over.
