Welcome back to Archydeunya. Today we’re joined by Dr. Maria Lopez, a leading epidemiologist with the Andalusian Health Service. Dr. Lopez, thank you for joining us.
Dr. Lopez:
It’s a pleasure to be here.
Dr. Lopez, Andalusia seems to be off to a strong start with its annual flu vaccination campaign. Can you share some details about the early figures?
Dr. lopez: Absolutely. As of December 22nd, we’ve seen a very positive response from our residents, with a meaningful number already vaccinated. This early momentum gives us reason to be optimistic about achieving a high vaccination rate this season. The campaign kicked off on September 30th, primarily targeting children aged 6 months to 5 years. We’re pleased with the turnout and encourage all eligible individuals to get vaccinated to protect themselves and vulnerable members of the community. That’s encouraging to hear. What are some of the contributing factors to this strong start?
Dr.Lopez: I believe there are several factors at play. First,we’ve seen a heightened
awareness of the importance of vaccination due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and this awareness seems to be carrying over to other vaccines. Secondly, the Andalusian Health Service has worked diligently to make it as easy as possible for residents to get vaccinated. The Salud Responde service, part of the Health Emergencies Center 061, has been instrumental in facilitating appointments.
Any final thoughts for our readers?
Dr. Lopez: Absolutely. It’s important to remember that vaccination is not just about protecting yourself; it’s about protecting
your family, friends, and the wider community. We encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated to help us
build a healthier Andalusia.
