This year, however, the festive atmosphere is overshadowed by the ongoing war, as families forced to flee their homes find themselves scattered and separated. “This Christmas will be unlike any other,” remarked a resident of Kyiv. “The joy of the season is clouded by the constant fear and uncertainty.” Despite the hardships, Ukrainians are demonstrating remarkable resilience, determined to maintain a sense of normalcy amidst the chaos. Many communities are organizing food drives and providing shelter for displaced families, ensuring that everyone has a warm meal and a safe place to celebrate. Religious services are being held in churches and underground shelters, offering Ukrainians a moment of peace and reflection amidst the turmoil. **Olena:** Normally,Christmas in Ukraine is a joyous occasion filled with family gatherings and traditional foods. Like many cultures, we celebrate with a festive meal, sharing dishes like varenyky, which are dumplings, and kutya, a delicious wheat berry pudding. It’s a time for laughter, storytelling, and enjoying each other’s company. [[1]]

**Olena:** This Christmas will be unlike any other. The war has cast a shadow over everything. Families have been scattered,homes destroyed,and the constant threat of violence hangs heavy. While we will still strive to observe our traditions, there will undoubtedly be a sense of solemnity and reflection. Many Ukrainians will be celebrating far from their loved ones, and the absence of those lost will be deeply felt.



**Host:** How are Ukrainians finding strength and resilience in the face of such hardship?



**Olena:** Ukrainians are incredibly resilient. Despite the immense challenges we face, we find strength in our traditions, our community, and our unwavering belief in freedom. We are resolute to keep our traditions alive,even in the darkest of times,as a reminder of what we are fighting for.



**Host:** what message would you like to share with the world about the Ukrainian people and their christmas celebrations this year?



**olena:** We want the world to know that while war has disrupted our lives,it cannot break our spirit. We will continue to celebrate Christmas, albeit in a subdued manner, as a testament to our enduring hope for peace and a brighter future.
