The Indonesian National Police (Polri) are throwing their weight behind the government’s food security program, partnering with the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) and the Ministry of Villages and Disadvantaged Regions (Kemendes PDTT). The goal? Too bolster agricultural strength in rural areas, especially through increased corn production. Head of the Baharkam polri, Police Commissioner General Fadil Imran, emphasized that achieving national food security is a shared obligation, not just the purview of the government or the agricultural sector. ”We fully support the kementan’s program and the government’s initiatives so that the Polri’s resources understand their role in achieving food security, specifically focusing on corn,” stated General Imran during a Technical Working Meeting (Rakernis) of Baharkam Polri in Cianjur, West Java, on December 18, 2024. General Imran outlined a collaborative approach where Polri and Kementan would act as facilitators, connecting with farmers and communities to enhance corn production. A pilot project promoting increased production of staple food grains like corn will be launched by the Polri. General Imran explained, “With Polri’s resources reaching even remote areas, we can actively facilitate farmers, farming groups, and communities in overcoming challenges such as access to land, seeds, fertilizers and other necessities.” Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman lauded the Polri’s involvement as an ”extraordinary collaboration”. “ “This is an extraordinary collaboration. We extend our gratitude and hope that Polri can focus on supporting food security efforts,” shared the Minister. Sulaiman expressed hope that this partnership would ensure tight monitoring of fertilizer distribution and agricultural equipment assistance to prevent the recurrence of fake fertilizer cases and misuse of aid.
