Copper Face Jacks booms Back: Post-Pandemic Revenue Surpasses Pre-COVID Levels
Dublin’s legendary nightclub, Copper Face Jacks, is experiencing a roaring comeback, with revenue exceeding pre-pandemic figures. The latest financial reports for Breanagh Catering, the company behind the iconic venue, reveal a staggering €11.78 million in revenue for the year ending January 2023. This impressive figure surpasses the €11.6 million recorded in the year before COVID-19 brought the nightlife industry to a standstill. The pandemic dealt a notable blow to the entertainment sector, forcing government-mandated closures that cost Breanagh Catering a cumulative €20.7 million in lost revenue over two years. However, the company has bounced back with vigor. Nightclub and bar sales alone reached €10.46 million this year, marking a 4.5% increase from the previous year’s €10.004 million. Accommodation sales at the Jackson Court Hotel on Dublin’s Harcourt Street, where Copper Face Jacks is located, were slightly lower at €1.32 million compared to €1.35 million in the previous year. Despite the challenges, Breanagh Catering has expanded its workforce, increasing staff numbers from 137 to 141. this led to a rise in staff costs from €4.18 million to €4.57 million. Director pay also saw an increase, from €1.35 million to €1.43 million. this included €289,651 in remuneration and a €1.15 million contribution to the Jacksons’ pension pot. Recognizing the competitive landscape of the hospitality industry, the directors acknowledged the risks facing the business. In a statement, they noted,“there continues to be increased competitiveness in the hotel and licensed trade sector while the company’s sales are also exposed to changes in general economic conditions in ireland.” Despite these challenges, Breanagh Catering continues to demonstrate financial strength. The company’s accumulated funds totaled €15.39 million at the end of january, although its cash reserves dipped slightly from €8.7 million to €8.48 million. Copper Face Jacks, opened by Cathal Jackson in February 1996, was briefly put up for sale in March 2019, with industry estimates suggesting a potential sale price of €40 million. However, the owners ultimately decided to retain the business. A staff memo in November 2019 confirmed that Mr. Jackson “has decided to stay actively involved in the business.”## Dublin Nightlife Booming: Copper Face Jacks reuving €54,000 a Week
