Asean Envoys Unite for Singing Sand Dunes Cleanup
This past Saturday,the Singing Sand Dunes witnessed a heartwarming display of international cooperation for environmental sustainability. The Asean committee in Doha (ACD) joined forces with DeapQatar Conservation to host a cleanup drive,bringing together a dedicated group of volunteers.
Heads of mission from all seven Asean embassies in Doha participated, demonstrating their commitment to Qatar’s environmental well-being. Representing Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and vietnam, these diplomats, along with embassy staff and their families, lent their hands to the cause.
Nearly 100 volunteers worked tirelessly, collecting an extraordinary 260 kilograms of waste, including plastic bottles, containers, and other debris. Their efforts underscored a shared dedication to preserving Qatar’s natural beauty for future generations.
Sumaya Baqavi, the charge d’affaires of the Embassy of Singapore and the current ACD chair, expressed her delight in partnering with DeapQatar Conservation for this important initiative. “We hope that such collective endeavors will inspire greater public interest in and awareness of environmental preservation,” she stated.
Baqavi highlighted Qatar’s commendable strides towards sustainability,commending the nation’s embrace of renewable energy,eco-amiable initiatives,and green infrastructure. “This is a testament to Qatar’s commitment to protecting its habitat for future generations,” she observed.

Highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship in the Asean region, the representative added, “Asean is blessed with abundant natural resources and has consistently prioritized environmental protection and sustainability. This commitment is deeply embedded in the Asean Socio-Cultural community (ASCC) Blueprint 2025, which envisions an Asean Community centered on people and environmentally conscious growth. This clean-up initiative is a tangible presentation of our shared values and our collective responsibility to preserve the environment for future generations.”
