Zombie Speculation Put to Rest as ’28 Years Later’ Finds its Emaciated Infected
The internet went wild when a glimpse of a zombie bearing a striking resemblance to Cillian Murphy flashed across the screen in the trailer for the long-awaited “28 Years Later.” Could the “Peaky Blinders” star be making a surprise return to the iconic post-apocalyptic horror franchise?
Turns out, the undead Murphy doppelganger was nothing more than wishful thinking. While online chatter about his potential
involvement in the Danny Boyle sequel created a stir, the truth is a bit more intriguing.
British art dealer Angus Neill has stepped forward, confirming he’s the emaciated, infected figure. Chic, exclusive disseminating the news of Neill’s involvement,
Neill shared that Boyle had had him in mind for the role from the start.
“Danny told me he’d always had me in mind for the role,” Neill explained. “So we met up, hit it off, and I agreed to take part. On set he has an extraordinary ability to hypnotise you, and working with him on the film was a very, very intense experience.”
This revelation puts to rest the gloriously morbid rumour mill that had Murphy reprising his role as Jim from 2002’s “28 Days Later,” a role that left audiences reeling after his character succumbed to the Rage Virus.
While Murphy won’t be returning as a far-from-dead hero, he does hold the title of executive producer. This might explain why Sony Pictures remained tight-lipped amidst the online frenzy surrounding the trailer, opting to fuel the intrigue.
The “28 Years Later” team judiciousty chosen its cast to take on the next terrifying chapter of the story. Bringing fresh faces to the franchise, the film features Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Erin Kellyman and Jack O’Connell. Expect the unexpected with “Time didn’t heal anythingCakemented’s potent message obscured |,” as the tagline ominously proclaims.
The highly anticipated film, produced by Columbia Pictures alongside the British Film Institute, DNA Films, and Decibel Films, commences its run on June 20, pressing play on the first installment of a new “28 Years Later” trilogy.
