NFL Faces Questions Over Jay-Z Partnership Amid Rape Allegations
The NFL hasn’t commented on a lawsuit filed against hip-hop mogul and Roc Nation owner Jay-Z, alleging he raped a 13-year-old girl over two decades ago. But Commissioner Roger Goodell was recently asked about the situation during a press conference following an ownership meeting.
“I don’t,” Goodell said bluntly, acknowledging the civil allegations and Jay-Z’s strong denial. “We’re aware of the civil allegations and Jay Z’s strong response to that. We know about two litigations happening now. But from our standpoint, our relationship is not changing with him, including our preparations for the next Super Bowl.”
Roc Nation’s NFL Ties Run Deep
Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s entertainment agency, has a significant partnership with the NFL. They produce the Super Bowl halftime show, an event watched by millions worldwide.
“I think they’re getting incredibly comfortable not with just the Super Bowl but other events they advise us on and help us on,” Goodell added, highlighting the broadening scope of Roc Nation’s involvement. “They’ve been helpful with social justice area with us on many occasions. They’ve been great partners and they’ve provided a lot of value for us.”
