Maine Restaurants Partner for Book Giveaway to Promote Literacy
This Saturday, young bookworms across Maine will have a chance to add to their home libraries thanks to a special partnership between a beloved local restaurant chain and a dedicated literacy organization.
Governor’s restaurants across the state are teaming up with Dirigo Reads for a book giveaway event, aiming to celebrate “Read a New Book Month” and spread the joy of reading to children in their communities.
From 8:00 am until noon, or while supplies last, families are invited to stop by any Governor’s location to participate.
Each child aged 4-7 will get to choose a book to keep from a curated selection, encouraging them to build their own personal reading collections andSpark a lifelong love of literature.
A Passion for Reading
“Part of our mission has always been focused on kids and families. We have little libraries outside all of our buildings. Reading’s important to us. My daughter actually was just in the 1st grade and got books from Dirigo Reads and I saw firsthand how awesome that program is,” said Jason Clay, owner of Governor’s Restaurants.
For Dirigo Reads, the event aligns perfectly with its mission to help children discover the magic of books.
“Something that is lovely about kids being able to have their own books at home and fall in love with them, and that’s been the mission of Dirigo Reads for the past five years,” said Dan Cashman, Co-founder of Dirigo Reads.
Supporting Literacy Beyond the Book Giveaway
Governor’s commitment to literacy doesn’t stop with the book giveaway. On that morning, the restaurant chain will also be donating 10% of their breakfast sales to Dirigo Reads, further supporting the organization’s efforts to get books into the hands of children.
