Jim Carrey Races Back to ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ – and He Explains Why
Flickering between laughter and straight truth, Jim Carrey revealed why he reprised his role as the iconic villain Dr. Robotnik in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3.”
This comes after he previously hinted at retiring from acting, declaring in 2022 that he was “fairly serious” about taking a break.
The actor joked that he needed a script written in gold ink by angels. While Carrey did attend the UK premiere of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” he said, “That might have been hyperbole, but yeah.” He laughed, adding, “You know, I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius. Which is a bit of a stretch.” The comedian’s signature mischievous touch bleeds through, making it hard to discern if he’s being completely serious.

Then came the more pragmatic reason. with a deadpan tone. “It’s just, I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly,” he said.
