Get Your Fortnite Refund: Deadline Approaching for FTC Claim

Millions of Fortnite players may be eligible for a refund due to a historic settlement in 2022. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is currently accepting refund claims from those who made unintentional in-game purchases in Fortnite.

Trucking the risky terrain of online gaming can lead to accidental purchases, and the FTC hopes to rectify that, particularly for younger players. Specifically, the FTC alleged that Fortnite’s design, using tactics dubbed “dark patterns,” tricked players into making unintended buys.

The FTC stated in 2022 that Fortnite violated the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by employing these manipulative design elements. This settlement seeks to compensate individuals who fell victim to these tactics.

To file a claim, eligible individuals can access the official online form. The claim process requires either a previously obtained claim number or your Epic Account ID. You must be at least 18 years old to file, but minors can have parents or guardians complete the form on their behalf.

The deadline to submit a claim is January 10, 2025.

After reviewing and validating all claims, the FTC plans to issue additional payments in 2025.

Claimants who opt for PayPal payment must accept their funds within 30 days of issuance. Those who choose to receive their refunds via check will have 90 days to cash them.

Not sure if you qualify? The FTC provides a clear set of criteria on its website to determine eligibility:

* You played Fortnite before the settlement was reached in 2022.
* You made purchases in Fortnite while playing, and you believe those purchases were unintentional or unauthorized.
* You haven’t already obtained a refund for those purchases from Epic Games.

This settlement marks an important step in safeguarding consumers, particularly young gamers, from manipulative online practices.

If you believe you’re eligible, don’t delay. Visit the FTC website and file your claim before the deadline.
