High-Speed Internet Arriving in Epsom

Epsom is getting connected, with over 2,400 new residents and businesses set to gain access to Fidium’s high-speed fiber internet network.

Bridging the Connectivity Gap

Construction is slated to begin this week, bringing high- speed internet to designated areas, including both unserved areas with no internet access and underserved areas with slow speeds. This expansion will offer residents faster, more reliable internet access, closing the digital divide which has impacted certain parts of the town.

"We definitely know there is a need in this community," said selectwoman Meadow Wysocki.
"We hope that with the additional expansion, our residents are going to have additional options, and that will create a competitive market with affordable rates.

State Funded Expansion

This expansion is partially funded through the state’s Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program, a $196.5 million grant primarily focused on broadband development in rural areas.

Earlier this summer, a town survey revealed that 287 residents qualified as either unserved or underserved making Epsom a priority after the state reviewed data collected.

The Build-Out Begins

Fidium will be installing fiber optic cables along streets and in public utility areas.

"Construction should be complete by the end of spring, with service beginning around that time," said Fidium representative Kyle Thweatt.

Community members can sign up for alerts on the Fidium website to stay informed about the construction progress.

Benefits Beyond Connectivity

While the initial focus is on connectivity itself, the project’s long-term benefits extend beyond faster download speeds.

“We were a little concerned that because we did not have some of the substantial numbers that some of our surrounding communities or communities up north had concerning expansion projects. We weren’t sure where we’d fall,” said Wysocki.

“But we think Epsom being a main corridor between Concord and the Seacoast is to our benefit, as it helps connect an area that’s in between established areas with service."

According to Fidium, that access to a high-speed network can contribute to economic growth, leading to thriving businesses, and increased property values.

Staying Connected

Fidium will keep residents informed throughout the process using mailers, door hangers, and construction alerts.
