Prince William Meets with Donald Trump Following Notre Dame Reopening
Donald Trump publicly shared details of a private chat with Prince William, revealing the pair discussed the health of both King Charles and the Princess of Wales, who were both diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
The former US president-elect, speaking to the New York Post after meeting with William in Paris on Saturday, noted that he had inquired about the health of each royal directly, and said William assured him that his mother, the Princess of Wales, is “doing well.”
“I asked him about his wife and he said she’s doing well,” Trump stated.
Trump continued by revealing that he inquired about Charles, noting “And I asked him about his father and his father is fighting very hard, and he loves his father and he loves his wife, so it was sad.”
Following the ceremonial reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral, the unexpected meeting between Trump and William took place in the Salon Jaune room at the British ambassador’s residence in the French capital.
Describing the encounter as a “great talk” lasting “half an hour, a little more than half an hour,” Trump commented, “We had a great, great talk.”
Trump also praised William’s appearance, telling the New York Post that “He was ‘very handsome,’ adding ‘some people look better in person…”
William’s presence at the Notre Dame reopening was a late addition, as the heir to the throne was called on at short notice to join world leaders for the significant event superficially.
The British royal family, viewed as crucial diplomatic figures by the UK government, are seen as key players in fostering a strong relationship with incoming US leader, Donald Trump.
The devastating fire that ravaged Notre Dame in 2019 sparked international concern and a global effort to restore the historic cathedral. William’s attendance alongside other world leaders at the reopening ceremony further emphasized the cathedral’s symbolic importance on the world stage.
