Indonesia Launches New Initiative to Promote Physical Activity in Schools

**JAKARTA** – In a bid to foster a healthier generation, Indonesia is launching the Fit Indonesia Movement, a comprehensive program aimed at increasing physical activity for students nationwide. The initiative, spearheaded by the Minister of Youth and Sports and involving the Ministry of Education,

During a recent statement at the Presidential Palace Complex, Minister Dito Ariotedjo highlighted the President’s strong support for this initiative. According to Ariotedjo, President Subianto believes that incorporating daily physical activity into the school curriculum is crucial for the healthy development of youth.

“Essentially, we are starting the Fit Indonesia Movement, and it covers comprehensive policy changes,” explained Ariotedjo, emphasized that the President is very supportive of this program.

“The President, initially aimed to have a full hour of sports every day. We’ll do it in stages,” shared the minister, detailing that the goal is to gradually introduce a minimum of one hour of dedicated time for physical activity across all education levels.

Dirto underlined the importance of including essential movements like gymnastics and athletic activities. He emphasized that the program might also revive traditional Indonesian exercises.

The intention behind this initiative is twofold – strenghten the physical well-being of future generations and cultivate a new generation of athletes. At its core, it intends to revive basic skills like gymnastics by reintroducing them into physical education curricula.
