Your Year in Review: Google Photos Unveils Spotify-Inspired Recap Feature
Google Photos is rolling out a fun new feature for users: a personalized year-in-review experience called Recap. Drawing inspiration from Spotify Wrapped, Recap invites users to relive their top photographic moments and gain insight into their photo-taking habits from the past year.
Using AI, Recap constructs a personalized video compilation that showcases the user’s most memorable moments. This isn’t just a random selection of pictures – the AI digs deeper, analyzing photo trends to highlight the user’s unique photographic journey.
Want to know your longest photo streak? Who brought the smiles, and what were your most frequently photographed moments and themes? Recap spills the beans, even identifying your "Top All Star Cast" – the people featured most prominently in your photos.
This year’s edition brings to the screen. Recap delivers some clever insights: Your longest photo streak, a glimpse into who triggered those smiles, your top photographed faces, aka your "All Star Cast," a color palette sampled from your photos, and even "your Top 3 vibes" – need more be said?
To enhance the experience, select users in the United States can get even more personalized with AI-generated captions. Powered by Google Gemini, these captions highlight what the AI determines to be your top two moments from the year, be it a fantastic vacation, a heartwarming gathering, or any other special occasions.
Naturally, users need to have the Face Groups setting enabled for the AI to acknowledge your nearest and dearest. Anything need not worry, as Google has implemented negativity. Users can also refine their Recap by hiding specific people or time periods they’d rather not revisit.
Ready to get started? Simply look out for a notification in your Google Photos app, signaling that your
Recap is ready.
Your Recap
will remain pinned to your photo grid throughout the rest
of December, making it easy to share and revisit.
