The small, round dot was put by a pen at the “Committee for Regional Development and Innovation”, which had the authority to decide the matter.

Here they chose to follow the recommendation of the municipality, which is in many ways the commuter capital of North Jutland.

– There was no debate about the proposal. We followed that and the previous decision from the regional council, says committee chairman Peter Key Kristiansen (S).

Unknown future

– On the other hand, we talked about what should happen after 2030. There is no plan for there to be a stop between Hobro and Aalborg. But perhaps the new technology being introduced gives us new opportunities, he elaborates.

Kim Edberg (DD) has been against making major changes now, when a lot will have to be changed in six years anyway:

– But we have gone through that debate. Now that’s the way it is, I’m fine with Skørping getting the train. If it had been much more than five years, I would have taken Støvring. That is what is being built for, he explains his position.

– And then this is going to cost us money, which we have to find somewhere else. Another five to six million kroner. We haven’t talked about where they will come from yet, says Kim Edberg.

Neighbors in competition

Neighbors Støvring, Skørping and Arden have long been playing against each other to get the nationwide trains to brake in their town when 2026 is on the calendar.

At that time, the structure in Himmerland will be changed, so that there will be more regional trains. The North Jutland Railways, which now stop in Skørping, will run all the way to Hobro in half an hour.

This leaves room for fewer nationwide trains. Since DSB also wants to fulfill its old ambition of settling for a one-hour transport time between Aarhus and Aalborg, there will be fewer stops than today.

Out of the region

Here, Arden was the first bid for the future stop for IC3 and IC4 trains. However, Rebild Kommune highlighted that there should at least be a stop for country trains here, as you have both Støvring and Skørping as stations today.

And not least several hundred citizens who commute out of the region for work.

In a long debate, the majority of the regional council agreed with that idea, and in August left it up to Rebild Municipality to choose which of the two stations should continue.

In Rebild’s city council, Skørping, which has the most commuters from North Jutland, was pointed out, and the region’s committee therefore followed suit.

The agreement only applies until 2030. Here, the electrification of the railway and a new signaling system are expected to be introduced, and then you have a new situation for train operations.

Here, it is not expected that there will be any stations between Hobro and Aalborg in order to keep the journey time down.
