From YouTube to SNL: Trisha Paytas Makes Surprising Alex Reed Appearance
“Gladiator 2” star Paul Mescal surprised “Saturday Night Live” viewers with an unexpected guest during his December 9th hosting debut.
The Oscar-nominated actor, known for his calm demeanor, found himself involved in a hilariously bizarre sketch featuring controversial YouTuber Trisha Paytas.
Spotify Wrapped Gets Weird
The sketch poked fun at Spotify Wrapped playlists, those yearly personalized dives into listeners’ audio preferences. Paytas, playing herself, made a cameo appearance, appearing alongside a fictional anti-instrumentalist sound guru named Satoshi Gutman, played by Bowan Yang.
After showcasing a brief snippet of Gutman’s song “Y’all Made Me Celibate,” Mescal’s character showed off a clip from the fictional artist’s podcast featuring Paytas. “Hey bastards!” she exclaims.
“What do we always say, Trisha?” Gutman asks.
Together, they declare, “the best bussy is celibacy.”
<p둑
This unexpected team-up shocked viewers, leading to a flurry of reactions on X (formerly known as Twitter). Some expressed disbelief. “Paul Mescal saying ‘thank you to Trisha Paytas,’ guys, what universe are we in?” one questioned.
Others remarked on the strange turn pop culture seemed to be taking. “Pop culture is so fun lately. Lookalike competitions, CEO hitman memes, what’s next???? Trisha Paytas on SNL????” another user wrote.
Paytas: From YouTube to Mainstream Recognition
Whether genuine or not, Paytas has cultivated a persona that is both captivating and controversial. While she’s amassed a loyal fanbase, garnering over five million subscribers and a billion youtube views with her dramatic vlogs, she has also been criticized for her self-described approach to content creation.
Paytas is
said to prioritize clickbait content on topics ranging from her plastic surgery to her sexuality, sparking frequent debates about the ethics of online fame.
But her ‘SNL’ appearance might signal a shift in perception.
Perhaps the sketch signified more than just a shocking surprise.
### “Gladiator 2″ Previewed
Alongside the Paytas cameo, the episode featured nods to Mescal’s upcoming role in”Gladiator 2,” a sequel to the Ridley Scott epic.
He even channeled his inner gladiator during a musical sketch. Dressed in a witches hat, Mescal soared above the “SNL” cast, singing a parody of “There’s no place like Rome,” referencing “Wicked’s” “Defying Gravity.”
It remains to be seen what the future holds for both Mescal and Paytas, but their sleigh ride on social media was clearly unexpected and undeniably memorable.
Did the SNL writers incorporate anything of Patytas’ online persona into the sketch?
