For 16-year-old Yasmine Lynn from Singapore, her battle with liver cancer began at a time when most children were diving headfirst into the world of classmates and playground adventures. Diagnosed at just five, Yasmine’s journey was a complex tapestry woven with medical procedures, unwavering support, and the resilient strength she discovered within herself.
“When it first happened, my parents tried to shield me from the weight of the diagnosis,” Yasmine revealed, remembering a time when playgrounds were replaced by hospital hallways. “The reality hit gradually. I remember the sickening feeling when I knew what I was up against.
The journey wasn’t easy. My treatment involved years of treatment, and the pain, undeniable.
“My parents, my sister, they were my anchors. My older sister, she was my rock. She understood. That makes a huge difference, having someone who gets it,” Yasmine shared.
“Chemotherapy,” she reflected, “took its toll. It stole my ability to hear certain sounds, but it couldn’t break my spirit. Music, playing the piano, that was, and still is my escape,” Yasmine confided, explaining how she had to adapt to the challenges.
