A genre that has become increasingly famous and with more and more options (even though some are horrible), is Hero Shooter. The genre that has been gaining more and more fans since Team Fortress has received yet another new title, which in turn has caught the attention of many players: Marvel Rivals.
The game is basically what we expect from a normal hero shooter, with many character options, a game mode of advancing towards an objective and many battles in a single match. The difference with this one is that it has several characters from the Marvel universe, who are already known from films and/or comics.
The game was officially launched yesterday (05/12), at 9pm and managed to accumulate an impressive number of 400 thousand simultaneous players on Steam alone. It is worth remembering that the game is also available for Xbox Series S/X and PS5 consoles.

What is driving the initial success of Marvel Rivals?
Welcome back to the show. Joining us today is Jane Austen, our resident gaming expert, to discuss the brand new Marvel Rivals game that’s got everyone talking. Jane, thanks for being here.
Jane Austen: My pleasure. It’s exciting to see a new Hero Shooter on the scene, especially one leveraging the beloved Marvel universe.
That’s right, it boasts 33 Marvel characters [[1](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Rivals)]. Jane, it seems to be making waves already, hitting a massive 400,000 concurrent players on Steam within the first day [[2, 1733594647]]. What do you think is driving this initial success?
Jane Austen: I think it’s a combination of factors. The Marvel brand is a huge draw, of course. But beyond that, the fact that it’s free-to-play lowers the barrier to entry, allowing a wider audience to jump in and experience the game.
So, do you think this is a long-term success story or just a flash in the pan? Will Marvel Rivals be able to hold its own against established titles in the crowded Hero Shooter genre?
Jane Austen: Only time will tell. However, I think the initial response is very promising. Its success hinges on NetEase Games’ ability to continue delivering compelling content, balancing gameplay, and, of course, listening to its community.
With all these new characters, maps, and potential updates on the horizon, it seems like Marvel Rivals is a game to keep an eye on. Thanks for your insights Jane, as always.
Jane Austen: You’re very welcome. I look forward to seeing how the game evolves.
We’ll be right back after the break with more on Marvel Rivals and whether or not free-to-play is the future of gaming. Do you think free-to-play models damage the longevity of a game? Let us know in the comments below.
