A13 Toll Booths Vanish: Free Flow Tolling Begins December 10

Say Goodbye to Toll Booths: A New Era for Motorists on the A13

Later this week, a major change is coming to the A13 motorway between Poissy and Caen – the traditional toll booths will be gone, replaced with a new system called “free flow.” This upgrade, implemented by Sanef, promises to significantly improve the driving experience, streamlining travel, and potentially benefiting the environment.

From December 10, drivers will experience a seamless journey. Gone are the days of slowing down, halting at barriers and fumbling for payment. Instead, cameras positioned along the motorway will automatically recognize your vehicle, recording your license plate and automatically charging your toll. Imagine: no more wasted time in queues, especially during rush hour or holiday travel.

Sanef cites simplicity as a driving force behind the new system. It’s designed for a faster, smoother journey, minimizing delays and frustration.

Beyond convenience, free-flow tolling promises enhanced security as drivers no longer have the hassle of finding the right lane at toll booths, thus potentially reducing risk-taking on the roads. Additionally, the system simplifies toll payments. Drivers have a choice: they can either pay online via the sanef.com website or use Explora telephone payment system. Motorists with a Liber-t transponder don’t have to do anything; as their toll will be automatically deducted from their account. And for those who prefer a more traditional approach, payment is still possible at tobacconists within three days, simply by providing their registration number.

Sanef contends that free-flow tolling aligns with environmental concerns. With fewer idling vehicles at toll barriers, there will be a reduction in fuel consumption and lower emissions.
