Local Athlete Makes a Splash at International Transplant Games
Maximiliano Polo, a local athlete who has undergone a transplant, recently participated in the XIV Argentine and X Latin American Games for transplanted athletes, held in San Juan from November 28 to December 1. Organized by the Association of Transplanted Athletes of the Argentine Republic (ADETRA), these games highlight the strength, resilience, and athletic achievement of transplant recipients.
Polo showcased exceptional talent in both swimming and athletics. In the pool, he claimed a gold medal in the 50-meter breaststroke and added two silver medals to his collection in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle races. On the track, he persevered to win a silver medal in the 1500-meter event.
Polo’s impressive performance extends beyond his personal achievements. “In this sense, Polo not only developed excellent performance but with his assistance promotes the dissemination of these sports spaces,” highlighting the vital role he plays in inspiring others and raising awareness about the importance of organ donation.
Joining the Movement
The success of athletes like Polo at these Games demonstrates the transformative power of transplantation and the importance of organ donation. In the spirit of supporting transplant recipients and encouraging others to become donors, the community is reminded of a local resource: the Municipal Awareness Office on Organ, Tissue and CPH Donation.
The office, part of the Inclusion Policies Directorate, is dedicated to promoting awareness about the significance of organ donation. Their team provides information about becoming a donor, what it means to be a donor, eligibility criteria, relevant legislation, rights of transplant recipients, and the role of the Single Ablation and Implant Coordinating Center of the Province of Buenos Aires (CUCAIBA).
People interested in obtaining more information can approach said agency – located in the Municipal Palace – Colón Street entrance almost Belgrano – from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. “Donating organs saves lives.”
This message resonates as a powerful reminder of the difference each person can make by choosing to become an organ donor.
