Finding My Fit: Four Key Things I Learned on My Weight Loss Journey
A few years ago, I embarked on a journey to shed some pounds and improve my overall well-being. Losing 2 lbs wasn’t just about fitting into smaller clothes; it was a journey of self-discovery. As someone who used to think exercise was enough for weight loss, I learned valuable lessons about what truly works. Here are some insights I gained during my journey.
Exercise: Essential, But Not Enough
"Exercising daily for two years, yet not losing weight?" “How?” This might sound familiar. I was a regular at the gym, but back then,
— I clearly wasn’t losing anything but sweat. Change started when I realized that exercise alone wasn’t enough.
It’s simple, really. I addressed my diet: scaling back on fried foods and excess carbohydrates.
"In the photo on the left, I have been exercising every day for 2 years but still ate whatever I wanted until February this year😅. If you still eat your fried food and unhealthy tons of
carbs, there will be no weight loss or changes! However, I don’t regret exercising regularly every day before paying attention to
what I eat because it forms a habit, and maybe that’s what makes me lose weight faster," I wrote when explaining my revelation.
Let’s face it, fitness is vital, but it’s only part of the equation.
The Nutritionist: My Guiding Star
I sought guidance, especially after years of failed diets. A nutritionist helped me understand what my body needed. I finally understood portion control, mindful eating, etc. "Spending
on diet drinks or products" either didn’t work or was a band-aid solution.
I had tried fad diets, which led to frustration.
Reaching out to a nutritionist was worth every penny.
Start Now! Procrastination Isn’t a Friend
"It could be a long journey, so start now! You will never regret it," I reminded myself. It has
been difficult to break through
old habits. My own wedding day served as a driving force.
Now only one year away.
Consistency is Key: How I Stayed on Track
Looking forward to it – wearing a stunning cheongsam dress for my wedding- it was motive enough to help me stay focused.
"Find many ways
to be consistent: you must enjoy the food, explore the shortest and practical food prep for your daily activities, the sport you like, etc
(https://www.eatingwell.com/article/7885627/lessons-i-learned-from-my-weight-loss-journey/)]really helped me realize exercise alone wasn’t enough.
**What prompted the shift in your mindset?**

**What advice would you give to someone who feels stuck in their own weight-loss journey?**
**Alex Reed:** Don’t get discouraged! Take a holistic approach; focus on both diet and exercise. And remember, it’s a journey, not a race. Celebrate small victories and be patient with yourself.
