Closing his eyes momentarily, a visibly emotional Miftah Maulana Habiburrahman announced his resignation from his position as President Prabowo Subianto’s Special Envoy for Religious Harmony and the Development of Religious Facilities.

His decision, he said, was made after careful deliberation and prayer.

“Today, with all humility and sincerity and full awareness, I would like to convey a decision that I have been contemplating,” Miftah shared on Friday. “After prayer, deliberation and istikharah, I have decided to resign from my duties.”

Miftah appeared overwhelmed with emotion, dabbing his nose with a tissue as he delivered his statement, broadcast via YouTube by Tribun Jogja. He expressed his gratitude to the President, thanking him for placing trust in him, a man who described himself as coming from a humble background, once associated with the world of thugs.

“Mr. President, I would like to express my sincere thanks for the trust and trust that has been given to me,” he said. “To be elevated to the highest rank by Mr. President is an extraordinary gift, usually given to me through the intermediary of Mr. President Prabowo Subianto.”
