Four Legends Inducted Into the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame
The Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL) has welcomed four new icons into its prestigious Hall of Fame. Alex Scott MBE, Steph Houghton MBE, Gilly Flaherty, and Rebecca Welch have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to the women’s game.

The quartet, selected by a distinguished panel of former players, coaches, officials, journalists, and key figures in women’s soccer, represent a watershed moment for the WSL.
Alex Scott MBE, a dominant force in midfield for Arsenal and England, is a true trailblazer. Her 12 years at Arsenal saw her win 21 trophies, including four Women’s League Cups, seven Women’s FA Cups, one WSL title, and a triumphant UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign, scoring the winning goal in the final.
Scott’s influence extends far beyond her on-field achievements. A widely respected broadcaster, she graces football coverage on BBC Sport, Sky Sports, and numerous other platforms, becoming the first woman to commentate on a men’s FIFA World Cup for the BBC.
Steph Houghton MBE, a towering center-half, is synonymous with both Arsenal and Manchester City. Her trophy cabinet boasts seven titles at Arsenal before a decade-long reign at Manchester City, culminating in seven more trophies and 138 WSL appearances. Houghton captained England for eight years, etching her name as one of the nation’s most successful skippers.
Gilly Flaherty, a tenacious defender, holds a treasured spot among WSL legends. Flaherty holds the record for the most WSL appearances, a testament to her dedication and longevity. She achieved remarkable success with Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham, and Liverpool, winning an impressive 17 trophies along the way.
Rebecca Welch becomes the first official inducted into the WSL Hall of Fame. Her groundbreaking career saw her officiate at the highest levels of the game, including Premier League, EFL, and men’s FA Cup fixtures, becoming a pioneer for female officials worldwide.
Welch’s expertise was also showcased on the international stage, officiating at UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final in 2024, and culminating in her role as fourth official for the Gold Medal Match at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
