Ifi’ufa Day High School Receives Donation of New Computer Lab
Students and staff at Ifi’ufa Day High School in the Mimanalo local level government area of Goroka district, Eastern Highlands, now have a brand-new computer laboratory to look forward to when they return. The lab, which features 12 computers, was recently installed in one of the school’s newly built 4-in-1 classrooms. This generous donation is a result of a partnership between the Bank South Pacific Financial Groups and Infinet Limited.
A Commitment to Community
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held yesterday, was attended by Rosemarry Mawe, branch manageress of BSP Goroka, along with other BSP staff and Olson Waram, managing director of Infinet Ltd.
“The computers are part of the Bank’s commitment to giving back to the community where we operate,” Mawe stated. “We focus on projects in education, health, sports, environment, and other community initiatives where the need is real.”
She explained that the decision to donate computers to Ifi’ufa Day High School came after recognizing the need for improved computer access in local schools. Infinet Ltd generously provided the installation services free of charge.
Bridging the Digital Divide
Mawe emphasized the importance of early exposure to technology. “Students need to be exposed to computers at their early stages of learning before entering secondary and national high schools, where computing is a core course,” she said. “My daughter, who attended Aiyura National School of Excellence, told me about students from rural schools, and even from urban schools, not knowing how to use a computer.”
“We sent teams out to investigate the facilities in various high schools, which ultimately led us to donate these computers to Ifi’ufa Day High School,” Mawe explained. ”
“As we move further into the world of technology, even our bank is going digital in terms of banking. It’s only fitting that we start exposing our children to computers as early as possible so they can keep up.”
A Timely Gift
The school principal expressed their appreciation for the timely donation, highlighting its significant contribution to the school’s progress in becoming a secondary school. “This building would have been void without your recognition of this need,” the principal said. “Now, we’re seeing these computers being installed, which is truly remarkable.”
The deputy principal and board chairman of Ifi’ufa Day High School assured Mawe and the BSP team that the new computer lab will be well-maintained. This assurance addressed Mawe’s appeal in her closing remarks, emphasizing the importance of taking care of the valuable resource.
