Texas Solar Farm to Power Homes and Drive Clean Energy Initiatives
Matrix Renewables Announces Progress on 210MWac Stillhouse Project
A major renewable energy project in Texas is making strides, promising significant benefits for both the environment and the local community. Matrix Renewables announced successful financing for the Stillhouse solar farm, a 210MWac photovoltaic plant located in Bell County.
Construction on the project began in the second quarter of 2024, and Matrix Renewables anticipates it will be operational by the third quarter of 2025. Once completed, Stillhouse will provide clean energy to the equivalent of 48,862 homes, significantly contributing to the state’s clean energy goals.
“We are delighted to be able to announce progress in the financing and construction of our Stillhouse project,” said Cindy Tindell, managing director US of Matrix Renewables. “Construction began in the second quarter of 2024, and we expect to begin supplying power to Hyundai and guarantees of origin to Microsoft in 2025.
We thank Microsoft and MUFG for their continued support, and we look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with our partners.”
The project’s financing includes preferred capital from Acadia Infrastructure, as well as $376 million in non-recourse financing from a consortium of lenders led by MUFG. HSBC, ING, and BBVA also participated in the financing.
Fred Zelaya, general director of MUFG, expressed pride in leading the financing for Matrix.
“MUFG is proud to have led this financing for Matrix. Stillhouse will make an important contribution to the energy transition,” he stated.
Beyond Clean Energy: Community Commitment and Sustainability
Stillhouse stands out not only for its clean energy contributions but also for its commitment to the surrounding community.
The project is partnered with the Sustain Our Future Foundation (SOFF), which will contribute approximately $3 million to support community services through its social commitment program.
Yinka N. Bode-George, founder and CEO of SOFF, highlighted the project’s innovative approach to benefitting the community.
“Operation Stillhouse is an innovative way to provide tangible benefits to the community through renewable energy projects,” he explained. “In addition to managing financial contributions to achieve community impact, our team has completed an environmental audit report, in addition to traditional financial, legal and technical audits, to ensure that environmental equity and justice are integrated throughout the project life cycle.”
This commitment extends beyond financial contributions. Matrix Renewables has also made sustainability a core element of the Stillhouse project.
Global Renewable Energy Leader
Matrix Renewables has a robust global portfolio, already surpassing 15.6 GW of solar energy projects, battery storage, and green hydrogen projects. In the United States alone, the company has more than 8.7 GW of projects in operation and various phases of development across four regions (CAISO, MISO, ERCOT, and WECC). The company continues to expand its portfolio and team to capitalize on the strong demand for renewable energy in the U.S.
Stillhousecnpj represents a remarkable stride in the advancement of renewable energy in Texas and exemplifies Matrix Renewables’ dedication to sustainable development and community engagement.
