A Star-Studded Field Gathers for the Hero World Challenge
The Hero World Challenge is set to tee off soon, showcasing a thrilling array of golfing talent at Albany, Bahamas. This highly anticipated event promises a compelling spectacle, with numerous narratives unfolding over the course of the tournament.
Scottie Scheffler Eyes History
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler returns to action for the first time since the Presidents Cup, looking to add another chapter to his remarkable 2024 season. The defending champion at Albany, Scheffler has been on a tear, accumulating seven victories and a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, while racking up 16 top-10 finishes in 19 starts.
Scheffler has his sights set on an historic achievement: becoming the first player since Tiger Woods in 2005-07 to win the PGA TOUR Player of the Year award three consecutive times. His nomination for the Jack Nicklaus Award is a testament to his dominance on the course.
New Fathers and Rising Stars
Justin Thomas will be teeing off for the first time since welcoming a new addition to his family in November. The American star last competed at the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP, where he secured a T2 finish. Nick Dunlap, the Arnold Palmer Award nominee for PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year, makes his Hero World Challenge debut. An impressive feat, he became the first player in TOUR history to win once as an amateur and once as a professional in the same season.
Dunlap is one of eight players making their debut at this prestigious event. Others making their Hero World Challenge debut consist of Sahith Theegala, Russell Henley, Aaron Rai, Matthieu Pavon (the lone TOUR rookie to reach the TOUR Championship), Akshay Bhatia, two-time winner this season Robert MacIntyre, and Ludvig Åberg. Åberg, who returned to the tournament after knee surgery in September, defended his title at the RSM Classic, finishing T17 after a final-round 64.
Presidents Cup Presence on Full Display
The Hero World Challenge will feature a strong contingent of players who participated in the illustrious Presidents Cup. American RYder Cup captain in 2025 Keegan Bradley is ready for his seventh Hero World Challenge appearance. Bradley capped off his impressive season by winning the BMW Championship as part of the FedExCup Playoffs and secured the winning point for the US Team at the Presidents Cup contested at Royal Montreal.
Fans can also expect to see Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Sam Burns, and Brian Harman representing Team USA. The International Team will be represented by Jason Day, Tom Kim, and Sungjae Im. With eight members from the 12-person US team, and three schedule to represent the International Team, anticipation is high for some realistic Ryder Cup rematches on the course.
Returning Contenders Aim for Glory
Sepp Straka, who finished runner-up to Scheffler last year, returns to Albany seeking redemption. He also secured a top-10 finish in 2023 and had an impressive four top-10 finishes this year, with three coming in Signature Events. Cameron Young, who notched six top-10 finishes in 2024, including a runner-up finish at the Valspar Championship, makes his return to the course after the BMW Championship.
The impressive lineup ensures the Hero World Challenge is set to be an exciting event. Nine players ranked within the top 20 of the Official World Golf Ranking will grace the field with their presence. The stage is set for an unforgettable week of world-class golfing action.

## Interview: The Hero Challenge Heats Up
**Introduction:**
Welcome back to ”Golf Talk.” Today we’re diving into the excitement surrounding the Hero World Challenge, taking place at the beautiful Albany in the Bahamas. Joining us is our resident golf expert, Alex Reed, to break down what promises to be a truly thrilling tournament.
**Interviewer:** Alex Reed, thanks for joining us. Let’s start with the big names. Scottie Scheffler is back, and talk about dominance – seven wins already this year, an Olympic gold medal, and he’s eyeing a historic threepeat as Player of the Year. Is he the clear favorite coming in?
**Alex Reed:** Absolutely. Scheffler [1] is on a roll like we haven’t seen in years. Defending champ at Albany, he knows this course, and he’s hungry for more. But remember, this is a small, elite field – everyone here is a champion. So while Scheffler is the favorite, it won’t be a walk in the park.
**Interviewer:** Speaking of champions, Justin Thomas is back after becoming a father. How do you think fatherhood will play into his game? Will it be a distraction or a motivator?
**Alex Reed:** That’s the million-dollar question, isn’t it? [Alex Reed laughs]. New dads often find renewed focus, but it can also be demanding. Time will tell how Thomas balances it all. But he’s a fierce competitor, so don’t count him out.
**Interviewer**: And let’s not forget the exciting newcomers! Nick Dunlap, the rookie sensation, is making his Hero debut. What are your expectations for him?
**Alex Reed:** Dunlap [1] is something else. Winning as both an amateur and a professional in the same year? That’s incredible. He brings a youthful energy and fearlessness to the field. While he might not be favored to win, you can bet he’ll make some noise.
**Interviewer:** This year’s Hero World Challenge looks absolutely loaded. Any final predictions or thoughts before we let you go?
**Alex Reed:** Buckle up! This tournament has all the ingredients for a real nail-biter: star power, intense competition, and a beautiful setting. It’s going to be a great week of golf.
**Interviewer:** Thank you for your insights, Alex Reed! We can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.
