Luxury Hermes Handbags Stolen in Daring Hong Kong Heist
|
In a brazen heist, masked thieves made off with 66 luxurious Hermes bags worth an estimated US$1.3 million (approximately Rp. 20.6 billion) from a retail boutique in the heart of Hong Kong.
The daring robbery took place on Saturday, November 30th at around 7:41 am on the 17th floor of the New World Tower.
CCTV footage has captured the swift and calculated operation. Three individuals wearing masks entered the boutique and shattered the display case to access the coveted bags. Within five minutes, they made off with an estimated 66 valuable bags, leaving behind only one bag recovered by police in a stairwell. A further seven bags suffered damage during the chaos.
Ginza Xiaoma, a respected luxury boutique specializing in Hermes bags and accessories, confirmed that 21 of the stolen bags were entrusted to clients for resale, while the remaining inventory belonged to the retailer. The boutique, with showrooms in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Singapore, has pledged to provide full compensation to the affected clients who lost their valuable possessions in the daring raid.
The incident highlights the demand for high-value luxury items and the lengths thieves will go to acquire them. The case is under investigation.
How do these types of high-profile thefts impact the perception of safety and security in luxury retail destinations?

**Host:** Welcome back to the show. We’re following a developing story out of Miami Beach involving a brazen theft of luxury goods. Joining us now is fashion journalist, Sarah Robinson, to break down the details. Sarah, thanks for being here.
**Sarah Robinson:** Thanks for having me.
**Host:** So Sarah, what can you tell us about this incident?

Surveillance video released by prosecutors shows what police are calling a robbery at a high-end store inside a five-star hotel in Miami Beach back in March. [[1](https://www.local10.com/news/local/2024/05/20/video-shows-18m-hermes-handbag-heist-on-south-beach/)]The stolen goods? A reported $1.8 million worth of Hermès handbags.
**Host:** $1.8 million? That’s staggering! Can you give us any more details about how this happened?
**Sarah Robinson:** Unfortunately, the details are still emerging. We know from the video that jubilant robbers stuffed the handbags into duffel bags before making their getaway. Authorities are still investigating, but this type of high-profile theft certainly raises concerns about security at luxury retail locations.
