New Appleton Health Center Focuses on Mental Health and Physical Therapy
Doors are opening at a brand-new health center in downtown Appleton, aiming to address a critical need for mental health and physical therapy services in the Fox Valley. The Prevea Appleton Health Center, located at the Fox Commons building (10 W. College Ave.), formally welcomed its first patients Monday morning.
This new facility, occupying the former site of City Center Plaza, boasts a dedicated team of professionals ready to provide support. Patients seeking physical therapy, counseling, psychiatric services, or marriage and family therapy will find a welcoming environment at the center.
“The reality is anywhere you put physical therapy or behavioral health services they’re going to be filled up. Our schedules are full for next week, and we’ll continue to add providers as the need continues to grow,” said Jason Helgeson, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Prevea Health.
Addressing a Growing Need
The establishment of the Prevea Appleton Health Center comes at a time when access to mental health care is increasingly concerning. According to the Health Resources and Services Administration, over 122 million people in the United States live in areas designated as mental health workforce shortage areas.
Recognizing this pressing issue, Prevea Health has made a conscious effort to expand its services and reach more individuals in need.
Expanding Access to Care
This new Appleton location marks Prevea’s second expansion in the Fox Valley, complementing the existing Prevea Grand Chute Health Center. While the Grand Chute facility offers a broader range of services, including urgent care and family medicine, the Appleton center focuses specifically on physical therapy and mental health.
“There’s a demand and there’s a need,” Helgeson emphasized. “It’s our job to partner to provide access to those people whether they’re in that downtown area or they need to commute from the suburbs.”
This strategic approach allows Prevea to cater to the diverse healthcare needs of the community, ensuring that residents have convenient access to specialized care closer to where they live and work.
