University of Ferrara Launches Paralympic University Teams
The University of Ferrara is taking a significant step towards greater inclusion and athletic opportunity for students with disabilities. The third seminar in the ongoing “Unife and Paralympic sports culture: TUP – Paralympic University Teams” project will take place soon, marking a milestone in the university’s commitment to the Paralympic movement.
This groundbreaking project, organized by Inclusive Unife in collaboration with the Italian Paralympic Committee and participated by the University Sports Center (CUS) of Ferrara, aims to create up to ten Paralympic University Teams (TUP). Each team will consist of talented students with disabilities who are not members of Paralympic federations, paired with dedicated university tutors from the Sports Science degree program.
Expert Paralympic trainers from the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP) and skilled technicians from the CUS Ferrara will provide invaluable guidance and support to these emerging athletes.
The project aims to empower students with disabilities by providing them with the opportunity to participate in a range of sports, including judo, golf, table tennis, and athletics. By offering tailored training programs and fostering a supportive environment, the initiative seeks to nurture athletic talent and promote the principles of Paralympism within the university community.
The upcoming seminar, held at 2 p.m., will feature a series of inspiring speeches from prominent figures in the Paralympic movement.
Presentations include:
- Melissa Milani: President of the CIP EmiliaRomagna Regional Committee.
- Angelica Mastrodomenico: National Director of CIP Paralympic preparation.
- Arianna Mainardi: CIP University Reports: The Project at National Universities.
- Giuseppe Alberti: Delegate CIP Ferrara.
Fernanda Messori, a CIP athlete specializing in football for amputees, will share their personal experiences and insights. Luca Martufi, a Paralympic golf master and technician with the CUS Ferrara, will highlight the opportunities within adapted sports. Alexander the Great, a Unife teacher and CIP judo technician, will discuss the importance of inclusive training practices, along with Andrea De Vivo, a Unife teacher and CIP athletics technician.
Simon Mandini, Project Manager from the Department of Neuroscience and Rehabilitation at the University of Ferrara, will moderate the event.
“This seminar represents a critical step in our journey to create a more inclusive and accessible sports environment for students with disabilities,” said Mandini.
“We are committed to empowering these athletes, providing them with the resources and support they need to reach their full potential, and promoting the values of Paralympism throughout our campus community.”
