Lizzo is Still Shining
On Nov. 22, the "Truth Hurts" singer hit Instagram, treating fans to a new photo dump where her noticeably slimmed-down frame was front and center.
The "Milkmaid Braid" singer captioned the post simply: "Last night I wore milkmaid braids."
But post-weight-loss speculation was the overwhelming theme in the comments section.
"How you get skinny so fast??," one user wrote.
Another chimed in, "Yo Lizzie lost mad weight."
Many expressed their surprise at her transformation, while others, noticing her outspoken commitment to fitness, marvelled at her dedication to her health journey. Some felt the need to remind followers that Lizzo’s weight loss journey is hers, and hers alone. "Can yall go one post without mentioning how ‘skinny she’s getting’ or how she’s ‘using ozempic’?? She’s been documenting her fitness and healthy eating journey this whole time."
Adding to the excitement, Lizzo shared a picture and video on Instagram in another post, where both she and her mom rocked matching braided hairstyles.
In spite of comments centered on her appearance, Lizzo’s latest post makes it quite clear she’s so much more than meets the eye, regardless of her size.
“S/O to everyone that just found out im lowkey cool as hell welcome to the club,” she wrote on Monday.
Furthermore, last year, the singer took to TikTok, openly sharing her deep love for physical activity, emphasizing how people often misinterpret her motivation for fitness.
“I’ve always loved moving my body. I’ve always loved working out," she shared in a Pt 2 of May 2023.
"I’m very holistically conscious—like I am very hippie-dippie and woo woo when it comes to food and supplements and just thinking about my body and the environment—and I think a lot of people see a fat person that way and immediately just assume everything they’re doing is to be thin. I’m not tryna be thin. I don’t ever want to be thin.”
Lizzo’s
commitment to living a healthy lifestyle is undeniable, no
matter the size she wears.
" I’ve always loved moving my body. I’ve always loved working out.” And her message to her
fans is clear; her health journey is about so much more than appearances. It’s about feeling good and living life to the fullest.
What does Lizzo’s weight loss journey teach us about the complexity of body image and self-acceptance?
## Lizzo’s Transformation: Confidence and Choice
**Host:** Welcome back to the show. We’re diving into the recent buzz surrounding Lizzo and her new look. Joining us to discuss it is cultural critic, Dr. Sophia Jones.
Dr. Jones, Lizzo has always been open about body positivity and self-love. Now, she’s sharing photos showing a noticeable weight loss. How are fans and the public reacting?
**Dr. Jones:** It’s a mixed bag, as you’d expect. Some fans are expressing amazement at Lizzo’s transformation, praising her dedication to fitness. Others are voicing concerns, wondering if this shift means she’s succumbing to societal pressure around body size.
**Host:** Given Lizzo’s history of celebrating body positivity, is there a possibility that this weight loss is perceived as contradictory to her message?
**Dr. Jones:** It’s a valid concern. Lizzo has been a powerful advocate for loving and accepting our bodies as they are. However, it’s important to remember that people’s bodies, like their opinions, can evolve. Lizzo has also explicitly stated in recent interviews [[1](https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/celebrities/2024/09/22/lizzo-weight-loss-ozempic/75336374007/)]that she is “fine both ways” and loves her body regardless of its size.
**Host:** So, how do we reconcile these seemingly opposing ideas?
**Dr. Jones:** It starts with understanding that body positivity is not about remaining static. It’s about autonomy, choice, and self-acceptance at every stage. Lizzo choosing to prioritize her fitness doesn’t erase her message of loving your body. Instead, it adds another layer to the conversation – highlighting that our relationship with our bodies can be complex and ever-changing.
**Host:** Indeed. It seems that Lizzo’s journey, whether related to weight loss or anything else, serves as a reminder of the ongoing conversation about body image and self-acceptance.
**Dr. Jones:** Absolutely. Lizzo, despite the scrutiny, continues to be a beacon of confidence and self-love, inspiring others to embrace their own unique journeys.
**Host:** Thank you, Dr. Jones, for your insightful perspective. We’ll be right back after the break.
