## Interview: South Jakarta Family Stabbings
**Interviewer:** Joining us today to discuss the tragic stabbings in South Jakarta is Dr. Sarah Williams, a forensic psychologist specializing in adolescent behaviour. Dr. Williams, thank you for being here.
**Dr. Williams:** It’s my pleasure to be here.
**Interviewer:** This case is deeply disturbing. A 14-year-old boy, MAS, has been arrested for allegedly killing his father and grandmother and critically injuring his mother. The police say MAS claims he heard whispering voices telling him to commit these acts. What are your initial thoughts on this case?
**Dr. Williams:** This is a heartbreaking tragedy. The details are certainly disturbing, and it’s important to remember that we are still early in the investigation. While the suspect’s claim of hearing voices is a significant factor, it’s crucial to approach this with caution.
**Interviewer:** What do you mean by caution? Could this be a case of mental illness?
**Dr. Williams:** It’s certainly possible. Auditory hallucinations, or hearing voices, can be a symptom of various mental health conditions. However, it’s premature to diagnose MAS based solely on this information. A thorough psychological evaluation will be necessary to determine his mental state at the time of the incident.
**Interviewer:** How common is it for teenagers to experience such extreme violence?
**Dr. Williams:** While certainly shocking, such incidents are rare. It’s important not to generalize based on this isolated case. Teenagers are still developing emotionally and mentally, and while they can be influenced by various factors, including mental health struggles, the vast majority do not engage in violence.
**Interviewer:** What kind of support will MAS need moving forward given the gravity of the charges against him?
**Dr. Williams:** MAS will need comprehensive psychological assessment and potentially long-term treatment, regardless of his mental state at the time of the crime. This situation is incredibly complex, and access to proper legal counsel, mental health professionals, and support networks will be crucial for him navigating this difficult process.
**Interviewer:** Dr. Williams, thank you so much for providing your insights on this truly horrifying case.
**Dr. Williams:** My pleasure.
